The 72 hour Sunshine Sea 2 Sea will be Pangea's longest adventure race to date and give everyone a chance to power themselves from one side of the state to the other. This is the first bicoastal adventure race in Florida since 2010 and will hopefully be a new staple on Pangea's race calendar for years to come.
The race will begin on the morning of Thursday February 16, 2012 and will last until the morning of Sunday February 19. The expected winning time will be around 58 hours.
It will be a typical Pangea event where each CP is worth one point and the standings are based first on amount of CPs and then by time. There will be several transition 'hubs' that will act as the start/finish for many disciplines. Expect different classes of TAs. Some will be larger with food, bathroom, tent area, etc. and some will be more limited. The course will have multiple discipline changes throughout. While there may be a long section, for the most part they will be broken up to no longer than six to 10 hours on one discipline at a time.
We expect the daunting 72 hour label to attract the expedition pros but we also want this to be a race that newcomers to multi-day events can do as well. Slower teams will have different options at transitions to ensure that they keep moving across the state on their own power.
No support crews allowed. Pangea Adventure Racing staff will provide all gear staging, movement and support.
The race will be sanctioned by both Checkpoint Tracker and the USARA so there is ample opportunity to qualify for national rankings.
